Need to take a break? Even if you don’t think so, the answer is probably yes.

In the latest from Fast Company’s The Future of Work series, Courtney Seiter gets into the science of why we need breaks.

One of the more interesting benefits of taking a break: “they allow us to take a step back and make sure we’re accomplishing the right things in the right way.” I know I have stuck my head down and powered through a project only to realize upon completion there was a smarter way to handle it. “When you work on a task continuously, it’s easy to lose focus and get lost in the weeds. In contrast, following a brief intermission, picking up where you left off forces you to take a few seconds to think globally about what you’re ultimately trying to achieve. It’s a practice that encourages us to stay mindful of our objectives…”

She also offers some break schedules to try out, and some break activities that will boost your productivity.
